wildearth > Sometimes you don't need to find wildnerness to find wildlife. My wife and I were walking along waterfront near the Santa Monica pier when I saw this entire colony of squirrels living in the large plants along the side. They were totally unafraid, so I ran back to the car for my camera.

wildearth > The squirrels in Santa Monica build extensive tunnels through and under the large plants they live in. This one has just emerged from one of those.
wildearth > This squirrel in Santa Monica had ventured farther out from the main body of the large plant than the others, but will still close to the opening of a tunnel.
wildearth > The green iguana is found in forest trees along lakes and rivers in Central America and northern South America. The photo was actually taken in Melbourne, Australia, but I put him here since they're an American species.
wildearth > I used to live near the Everglades and spent quite a bit of time there, especially after taking up photography as a hobby. I didn't have the big lenses for little birds, but large birds like this great white heron made for some nice images.
wildearth > Although endangered, brown pelicans are quite common in the Everglades National Park. This is one of my earliest photos and I still like it after all these years.
wildearth > One foggy morning in Santa Monica, I snapped a shot of this seagull just starting to pull up to land. I really didn't expect anything to come of it, but I ended up really liking it.
